Best Darn Apple Crisp ( no oats, tastes like upside apple pie, Yum!)

Best Darn Apple Crisp

(Bay Head recipe from Best Darn Foods) circa 1997

Ingredients:

• 8 McIntosh tart apples peeled and cut into wedges

• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

• 1/8 c. raisins or currants

• 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour

• 1/2 cup sugar

• 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1 egg slightly beaten

• 1/3 cup melted butter

Preheat oven to 350 Serves about 6.

1. Place the sliced apples in a bowl and toss with the cinnamon and raisins. Spread the apples into a buttered baking dish (use stoneware if you have it).

2. In a bowl, Mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir in the beaten egg till it forms a crumble.

3. Sprinkle on top of the apples.

4. Now drizzle the melted butter all over the apples and crumble mixture

Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, depending on the oven, or until the apple crisp is slightly golden on top and the apples are cooked well.

(Yum!! This tastes like an upside down apple pie. You can skip the raisins if you want to. The raisins gives the apple crisp a good flavor but you do not have to eat them.)
